Flarum -> Discord Webhooks

@HelsEch Resident CS guy, if you wanna make a bot.

Flarum has an extension called Webhooks by Friends of Flarum, which can enable events on things like New Posts, comments, etc.

Discord can create webhooks that react to these events described here, and it looks like it's built in / doesn't require any additional hosting costs to run!

I think the #news section of the Melonmancy discord may already use something similar to this.

What I'm thinking is we can create a channel #CafePosts in the Discord that links new Posts from here to drive engagement. I know a bunch of lurkers (✋🙄) will click through to the forum posts as long as it shows up on the discord first.

If it allows posts to a channel type like below it'd be great for indexing too.

It's been a hot minute since I've looked at writing discord bots or using webhooks on discord. I'm not sure when or if I'd get to working on something like this, but I don't hate the idea of making the forum more visible from the discord.

I think this is a good idea

The whole reason I am not using forum threads in Discord is because we have this actual forum instead (which will still be here when Discord's venture capitalist loan money runs out one day)

I'll look into this soon. Which sounds kinda empty coming from me but hear me out. If you've been listening to the podcast you'll know i've been spending like all of my freetime on the new Cyberpunk 2077 DLC, which i think i am going to beat tonight, or tomorrow night at the latest. Then I'll finally be free.

Also im uploading MP#78 right now, which is our last show before our yearly vacation. Next episode is in january. So i will have a lot more time to tinker with the forum here shortly.

I have quite a bit of options for permissions, like in the future if we want new thread notifications to go to one discord channel, and replies to another, or maybe a discord webhook JUST for cafe posts of the tabletop categories to its own tabletop-centric channel is all possible

Nice Dielan, thanks for all the work you're putting in. I feel like there's more incentive to post things in here now too!

Not entirely extension related, but there are two quirks I've noticed while making threads that I want to make note of.

No delete or edit permissions after posts reach ~one day of age.
- I assume this is to prevent de-archival of posts by users, but I would like to edit my Systems / Worldbuilding posts overtime to keep them updated to my most recent changes.
- Would it be possible to grant me long-term edit permissions if you want to keep the general behavior the same?
Can't indent bulleted or numbered lists.
- For example, the nested bullet holding this sentence I had to copy over from a Word document.
- I think this may be a quirk of the theme we are using. If @HelsEch gets to creating a new theme, I think that would likely fix this bug. If it's just how Flarum handles lists that is a whole other PITA.

Tree I just noticed the indenting thing when I was writing a different thread to summarize today's updates, and it's super annoying

Let me experiment with a different editor - like there's at least one other extension that totally replaces the text box you write your posts in. Maybe it will be smarter?

As for delete permissions, let me look at that right now.

Tree oh dude the default permissions were wack

Try editing your posts now. The default setting was "can edit until next reply"

I can see why that setting would have value, but I didn't see that coming. Should be indefinately for all users.

While I was in there I noticed some bad defaults for some of the other stuff I added today, like who can edit and see profile bios. Should be all good now

While i'm at it I also added you to the founder group, been a while since i went through and added the new accounts to that. Goal is to have everyone in our community as of like TODAY in discord/steam/whatever into that group, so we stand out from newcomers that might show up if something happens and we get popular (as a podcast, as a clan in a pvp game, or whatever might happen)

@Tree ok so I actually disabled the FriendsOfFlarum editor tweaks and we can indent bullets again

Problem is, you can't use the tab key, cuz webbrowser. Not sure yet how to change that

But you can preview your post as you type now, and you can toggle rich vs plain text in the editor, which should give you what you're looking for at this moment
