Link as a mechanic has been problematic its entire life.
Pendulum was a temporary problem, but also is just really unfriendly to new players, because the rules for it are unintuitive.
Together, it makes for a less intense meta than the one currently in main YGO, while also having many cards from the ban list available for play.
For example, in standard YGO, pot of greed is banned. In Genesys, it's 30 points, so you can run a full playset in a 100pt cap.
